Before and After Eyebrow Threading, What You Should Know

In every way we want to try to our body or face, we usually seek for a guide and aftercare tips for assurance and some personal reasons. One of it is if you want to try eyebrow threading and for those who haven’t tried this method, on getting unwanted hair in your face, specifically your eyebrows, you must really know some backgrounds before doing and know the things you must avoid after the service.

What really is Eyebrow Threading?

Eyebrow threading is a simple process that involves a piece of thread that is twisted and pulled along areas of unwanted hair acting like a mini-lasso and lifting the hair follicle directly from the root of the hair without chemicals needed. With origins in Asia, this treatment has been around for centuries already.

Threading can be considered as the best alternative to waxing and tweezing, also it is gentle in your skin. However, those with sensitive may experience a little redness after a treatment that should not last long. This technique allows you to pull one hair or even multiple hairs at a time.

Unlike waxing, threading is able to pinpoint and target the tiniest of hair so you can wave goodbye to your unwanted peach fuzz or even the hard to reach fine spots around your eyes. And the ability to tug on those micro hair makes it even more thorough than plucking with your regular tweezers.

If you experience discomfort, it is advisable to apply a cold compress over the threaded part that should be followed by a toner or a cooling gel that contains Aloe Vera or witch hazel.

What you should know before threading…

Benefits– Since threading only removes the actual brow hair and no skin. This method also makes it more precise so your threading artist would be able to remove finer hair that usually doesn’t stick to wax. While waxing and plucking technique can often leave unwanted stray hair around your eyebrows, a threading artist goes through your hair row by row which gives your eyebrows a clean, defined and perfect shape that you want.

Bearable pain– Depending on the therapist and your tolerance and the time of the month threading feels like tweezing multiple hairs at once. It’s true that threading is significantly less painful than waxing. While it can still be a little bit uncomfortable, there’s little contact with the skin. There’s also no risk of burning or irritating your skin with wax. Your skin may look red but the redness is from stimulation of the skin, not through excess skin removal that can happen from waxing. But you should try not to flinch during the service if you don’t want to have unwanted bald patches.

One at a time– You will be asked to pull your eyelids in opposing directions so the skin is taught and easy for the therapist to work on.

Don’t wear lots of eye make up– for some reasons, you might smudge your make up everywhere.

Uncontrollable side effects– include random sneezing and eye-watering, they might literally stream but not from the pain but the sensitivity. They might ask whether you want your brows trimmed or not– after the threading, though it’s optional it makes unruly hair look much neater. But if you have fine hair or sparse brows you can decline.

What you should know/observe and do after threading…

Redness– You will temporarily experience rosy skin and some suffer worse than others, so you might not want to go straight out on a date afterward but wait until an hour. And to reduce the redness you might consider applying Aloe Vera gel.

The hair from the face is removed from the follicle, leaving the pores on the skin open for at least 2-3 hours. The things that should be avoided are:

  1. Avoid touching the treated area for 2-4 hours.
  2. No make-up or perfumed products should be applied for 2-4 hours.
  3. Avoid steam treatment or heat source like sunbathing/tanning bedshot baths or sauna for at least 24 hours.
  4. Avoid swimming or spray tanning 1 to 2 days post threading.

For General Care:

Gently wash the treated area with an anti-bacterial face wash. Choose a toner with witch hazel, whose catechol tannins help reduce the size of pores and push out dirt. Or choose a toner with salicylic acid, which not only breaks down the oil in the clogged hair follicle but helps kill the bacteria.

You may also use other helpful ingredients such as Neosporin cream, tea tree oil or anti-inflammatories such as chamomile, aloe vera, and allantoin.

ADDITIONAL TIP

Don’t put anything on your brows right after hair removal. Wait at least two hours before you apply moisturizers, cleansers or makeup directly to the threaded area to keep the bacteria away from the open pores.
